Big White Sleepers vs Little Coloured LabourersA textbook example of farcical gags when a Big Business Conservative thinks of 'changing' something commoner.![]() And to think that Conservatives always accuse their critics of stereotyping them as out-of-touch old, rich white people. So the heiress unapparent of the mighty Eaton empire, Conservative Senator right-honourable Nicole Eaton wants to replace the hard-working symbol of Canada - the beaver - with the Polar Bear. Why? Because beavers, according to the distinguished member of the Senate, are nothing but silly 'big rats.' And the Polar Bear, says the esteemed legislator, reflects 'strength, courage, resourcefulness and dignity' that Canada possesses. I think she fell short of adding the Orwellian 'conservative values' to the list because that smokescreen fluff can only work with stupid immigrants. Who Gives a Dam?Actually, I kind of see this as a great example of zoological Freudian Slip by the senator, or rather, a Freudian stumble, slip and fall all rolled into one.Sure, Canada needs to be represented by a ferociously big white animal which pretty much spends most of its life sleeping and the rest of it eating. Canada surely does not need to be represented by an industrious little fellow known for one of the most ingenious work-habits for an animal -- by building natural dams that provide so many extra uses to other creatures, not just itself. But then again, who am I to criticize, eh? Labels: Politics
